Geocache Description:

Why did we let this thing happen?

This cache is placed in a location that will give you a nauseating view of what has to be the ugliest building in San Francisco.

Completed in 2007 (although it looks unfinished), this building cost the U.S. taxpayers one hundred forty four million dollars. It houses approximately 1500 federal employees of the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Defense, Social Security and Personnel Management. The General Services Administration SF Service Center is also located here.

Part of the design is that the elevators only stop at every third floor, forcing most people to walk up or down a flight of stairs whether they want to or not. It doesn't have conventional heating or air conditioning systems and relies instead on a "green" heat pump system that is supposed to do the job instead. However, people who work there say the place is cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

In a city with so much beautiful architecture, it's a shame this thing was allowed to be built. The neighborhood is OK in the day time, but I would not recommend coming here at night, as it is a high crime area after dark.

Difficulty rating is due to the small size of the container coupled with the difficulty of retrieving and replacing it without alerting the bums in the area.
